Craft a Leather Dog Collar and Leash
Duration: 2½ hours
Ages: 15+ (under 18 with an adult)
Led by: Darsh Khanna (@dakleather)
Treat your four-legged best friend to a custom leather collar and matching leash — crafted by you! In this hands-on class, you’ll make a custom leather dog leash from scratch (almost — you’ll start with a blank strap). First, you’ll learn leather 101 — the basics of leather and its characteristics. Then, dive into flexing your elementary school math skills to determine how long of a leather strap you need to make for your bougie pup. Oh, your pup’s not easily impressed? Well, let’s also make a matching dog collar to show your pup who's really the boss.
And are you worried your pup will think you’re cheating on it because it sees you leave home with a bunch of stuff to make a leash and collar? No problem! Leave your imaginary leatherworking supplies at home since we’ll provide all the materials and tools necessary! So bring yourself and the excitement to spoil your pup!
One super important thing: Before class, measure your dog’s neck size (see instructions below) and email it to dakleather@gmail.com. If you forget or measure incorrectly, we can’t guarantee you’ll get to make a leash and collar — unless your dog is willing to share with a Great Dane.
Sign up now — your pup will thank you with extra tail wags!
How to measure your dog's neck:
Using a sewing measuring tape, wrap it around your dog's neck. Be sure to wrap it where you’d like the dog collar should sit.
Place two fingers between your dog's neck and the measuring tape to leave a little room.
The neck size will be where the measuring tape meets.
If you don’t have a sewing measuring tape, simply wrap a wire or string around your dog’s neck following the instructions above and lay it flat on a metal measuring tape. DO NOT WRAP A METAL MEASURING TAPE.
About the instructor: Darsh Khanna is the founder of DAK Leather. He is a product designer by day and a passionate hobbyist by night, exploring everything from woodworking to leatherworking.
In 2021, seeking a standout groomsmen gift, Darsh discovered leatherworking through countless YouTube videos. This rabbit hole of YouTube videos sparked the creation of DAK Leather. Now, Darsh designs and crafts a diverse range of leather goods and has shared his love for the craft through classes like this one. The biggest joy is seeing the excitement in class when participants are shocked by the leather good they created!

Make a Leather Belt
Duration: 2½ hours
Ages: 15+
Led by: Darsh Khanna (@dakleather)
Ever wanted to craft something with your own two hands but don’t trust yourself with power tools? Good news — leatherworking requires zero electricity and minimal chance of injury (unless you're particularly reckless with a hole punch).
In this hands-on class, you’ll make a custom leather belt from scratch (almost — you’ll start with a blank strap). First, you’ll learn leather 101 — the basics of leather and its characteristics. Then, dive into flexing your elementary school math skills to determine how long of a leather strap you need and where to make holes on your new handmade-in-the-USA belt.
Best of all, you get to take your masterpiece home and wear it with pride until it doesn’t fit anymore. But don’t worry, you can take the “Make a longer leather belt from scratch”! And to sweeten the deal even more, no need to lug anything on the Metro because all materials and tools are provided, so just bring yourself and maybe a friend for moral support (as long as they buy a ticket too).
One super important thing: Before class, measure your waist (see instructions below) and email it to dakleather@gmail.com. If you forget or measure incorrectly, we can’t guarantee you’ll get to make a belt — unless you’re cool with a one-size-fits-none approach. Oh and in the event we don’t have a strap in stock to accommodate your size, we will do our best to get one in stock, otherwise, you will be refunded the full amount.
Sign up now and get ready to craft a belt so fine, your jeans will thank you!
How to measure your waist:
Using a sewing measuring tape, wrap it around your waist to the front (where your pant button sits). Be sure to wrap it where you’d like your belt to sit and on the outside of your belt loops.
Place two fingers between your pants and the measuring tape to leave a little room.
Your waist measurement will be where the measuring tape overlaps.
If you don’t have a sewing measuring tape, simply wrap a wire or string around you following the instructions above and lay it flat on a metal measuring tape. DO NOT WRAP A METAL MEASURING TAPE.

It’s time to take your basic crochet knowledge and actually make something you can actually use! How to choose the right yarn for a project. We’ll use 100 percent cotton yarn so you can use your finished project as a coaster or trivet.
How to crochet in the round to create the lemon shape.
How to work a range of crochet stitches, including half-double crochet and triple crochet.
How to create a leaf and flower (and how to attach them) to embellish your project. (The flower is perfect for adding to all kinds of projects!)

It’s meditative. Once you learn how to do it, you’ll be surprised how calming it can be.
It’s community-building. Everyone wants to chat when you’ve got needles in your hand.
Join Becky Sher, co-owner of Locally Crafted Workshop and a knitter for more than two decades, to learn the basics of the craft in two sessions. (There might be a tiny bit of homework between sessions, but it’s the fun kind!) Whether you’re an absolute beginner or refreshing your skills, you’ll leave ready to tackle your first project (in a future workshop with us, of course!). You’ll learn:
The basics of choosing yarn and needles for a project
How to cast on stitches to begin knitting
How to perform the basic knit and purl stitches
How to increase and decrease to add shaping to a project
How to cast off when you’re finished a project
Workshop includes your own pair of circular knitting needles to take home and yarn for practice. Please bring your favorite tote bag, because it's now your knitting bag. ;)
This workshop is open to crafters ages 14 and older.

Mandala Stone Dot Painting
Duration: 2 ½ hours
Ages: 13+ (10+ with adult)
Led by: Jody Jacobs Resnicow (@JJWebArt)
Come relax while creating your own mandala stone! No experience necessary! Jody Jacobs Resnicow is an artist who has been teaching in the local area at craft stores, cafes, community centers, senior centers, and privately for ages 5 to 100! (See photos of her work and classes on her Instagram account, @JJWebArt.)
To make your own unique, colorful mandala design on a smooth, organic river stone, Jody will walk you through some basic and some more complex dotting tool techniques. Select from a variety of stone shapes and sizes (necklace pendants, small canvases, and some small wood items may also be available). You will receive a simple meditation to practice at home with your stone. Additionally, it makes a great gift, art piece, or the beginning of a rock garden, inside or out.
Learn a brief history of mandalas and their meaning.
Household tools will be demonstrated so you can create at home what you learned, and mandala tools will be available for use while in the workshop.
You will intuitively choose your colors, and after, you will find out the meaning of the colors you chose.
There will be examples of mandalas to inspire you and instruction provided on how to achieve your choice or suggestions to modify if needed.
We will be using acrylic craft paints that can be permanent on your clothes, so wear old clothes that can get messy. Though few people get it on their clothes, it's best to be prepared.
Your mandala stone will be sealed for indoors, but you will be provided with instructions to further seal it for outdoors if you would like to start a rock garden!
All materials will be provided. Necklace chains for your pendant and a small mandala tool kit for making mandalas at home will be available for purchase from Jody after class, via cash or Venmo.
