Inspiration Boards for Tweens and Teens

Duration: 120 minutes
Ages: 9 to 18
Led by: Becky Sher (@createatlocallycrafted)

Inspiration boards (or mood boards or vision boards or dream boards) are the world's coolest bulletin boards. An inspiration board captures all of your favorite things — colors, patterns, lyrics, quotes, photos and more. Unlike a regular bulletin board where you just pin up any old thing, an inspiration board is curated, so it really reflects your personality and the things you care about. You can use it to document things you’ve done and things you want to do. And it makes a really cool decoration for your bedroom — almost like a scrapbook you can hang on the wall! Create this one in January, and you can add to it all year.

Locally Crafted Workshop co-owner (and lifelong crafter) Becky Sher will lead this workshop especially for tweens and teens (ages 9 to 18). During the two-hour session, you will:

Dig into our stash of paper, yarn, fabric, stickers, washi tape, ribbon, ephemera and much, much more to create a change-able inspiration board that reflects everything you love. Wait until you see our collection of super-fun pushpins!

  • Learn about combining colors and patterns and mixing media to create a unique display.

  • Choose a special quote (or more than one) as a centerpiece for your board.

  • Learn how to make pompoms, tassels, pinwheels, paper flowers and other embellishments to enhance your board, and to use in other projects.

  • Use our studio button maker to create 1-inch flair buttons to add extra pizazz to your project.

  • Take home a 20- by 13-inch inspiration board that you can add to and change all year.

  • If you have specific pieces of inspiration you'd like to work with (photos, ticket stubs, quotes, etc.) bring them along!

Becky Sher is the co-owner of Locally Crafted Workshop, and the owner of Ruth & Dottie, where she sells foil-stamped pencils and flair buttons. She loves pretty much every craft you can think of — certainly too many to list here. Before she opened LCW, Becky hosted craft camps and workshops for kids and teens at her dining room table. This is infinitely better!
