Knitting for Beginners

Knitting for Beginners

Duration: 4 hours (Two 2-hour sessions)
Ages: 14+
Led by: Becky Sher (@createatlocallycrafted)

(Please note: This is the second of a two-session workshop — Feb. 20 and 27, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.)

It’s always the right time to learn to knit! Here’s why:

  • It’s portable, so you can take it anywhere you need to stay busy.

  • It’s satisfying. There are few things better than saying “I made it!” when some compliments your hat, shawl or sweater.

  • It’s meditative. Once you learn how to do it, you’ll be surprised how calming it can be.

  • It’s community-building. Everyone wants to chat when you’ve got needles in your hand.

Join Becky Sher, co-owner of Locally Crafted Workshop and a knitter for more than two decades, to learn the basics of the craft in two sessions. (There might be a tiny bit of homework between sessions, but it’s the fun kind!) Whether you’re an absolute beginner or refreshing your skills, you’ll leave ready to tackle your first project (in a future workshop with us, of course!). You’ll learn:

  • The basics of choosing yarn and needles for a project

  • How to cast on stitches to begin knitting

  • How to perform the basic knit and purl stitches

  • How to increase and decrease to add shaping to a project

  • How to cast off when you’re finished a project

Workshop includes your own pair of circular knitting needles to take home and yarn for practice. Please bring your favorite tote bag, because it's now your knitting bag. ;)

This workshop is open to crafters ages 14 and older.
