Fused Glass Small Plates/Trinket Dishes

Duration: 2½ hours
Ages: 14+ (under 18 with an adult)
Led by: Irene Vangsness (@midsummerglassworks)

Join glass artist Irene Vangsness of Midsummer Glassworks (@midsummerglassworks) to learn the basics of fused glass art. In this class, crafters will make a 6- by 6-inch plate for food, trinkets or décor. Time permitting, crafters will make another smaller dish and a swizzle stick.

If you've been interested in fused glass but intimidated by the techniques involved, let Irene introduce you to this stunning craft.

In this workshop, students will learn:

  • How to handle glass safely

  • Glass cutting techniques

  • Project planning, layout, and construction

  • The various forms of glass, color/opacity/frits

  • Principals of glass fusing, time/temperature/what happens in the kiln/what is COE (coefficient of expansion).

All tools and materials will be provided. Irene will fire the dishes in her studio kiln, and completed projects will be available for pickup 5 to 7 days later at Locally Crafted or Locally Crafted Workshop.

Irene is a glass artist with 15 years of experience. She exhibits and sells in local art fairs, and sells her pieces in four handcraft shops. See her work on Instagram at @midsummerglassworks.

Crafters as young as 14 are welcome to attend, but any participant under 18 but must be accompanied by an adult. ALL participants must purchase a ticket.
