Build Your Own Gnome

Duration: 2 hours
Ages: 12+ (under 15 must be accompanied by an adult)
Led by: Vanessa Camilleri (@fairy.light.creations)

Gnomes are notorious for being ingenious, curious and extremely mischievous! Let your imagination run wild as you create two one-of-a-kind gnomes using upcycled materials. These are perfect to display on any flat surface at any time of year.

All tools and materials will be provided but feel free to bring in an old sweater or blanket that you don’t mind cutting up if you would like to use something of your own for this project.

Each gnome will be about 10 to 15 inches tall and will include:

  • Body and hat made out of colorful upcycled sweaters or blankets

  • Large nose made out of upcycled ornaments

  • Sturdy base made from upcycled lids and coasters

  • Beard or braids made out of thick yarn

  • Large pom-pom for the hat (you will make these!)

  • Embellishments such as ribbon, rickrack and more!

Vanessa is a third-generation crafter who works primarily with found objects — from out in nature or from thrift stores, garage sales and estates sales. She loves nothing more than to give something new life.
